Together with Contact Press Images, British photographer Don McCullin has used the occasion of the 19th World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2009 to give Reporters Without Borders 100 photos to support freedom of the press.

McCullin is as much a part of the history of photography as Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Gilles Caron, his friend and rival. For its part, Reporters Without Borders wanted to mark World Press Freedom Day by publishing the work of a press photographer whose grippingly realistic images highlight the importance of this fundamental freedom. This book, the income from which will support Reporters Without Borders, is a collection of 100 of some of McCullin’s most famous photographs. Most of them track the decisive events of the 20th century, but they are interspersed with more reflective images and a few curiosities such as little-known photos of the Beatles and Francis Bacon.
