A member of the Association of Women Journalists in Iran, Shahnaz Gholami was given a six-month jail sentence in 2008 for freely expressing her views on the blog she runs.
She was convicted of anti-government propaganda and defending women’s rights online. Neither her lawyer nor her daughter was allowed to see her while she was in prison. She went on hunger strike in protest against her prison conditions and, after 69 days, was granted a parole. Her blog remained censored.
